Box W.I. - January 2019

Unfortunately, my January report got lost in the ethers between Box and Minchinhampton, never to be seen again! I am sure you all missed it!

It’s a long time ago, but at our AGM in November; we were struggling to form a Committee and were facing the possibility of closure! However, the troops rallied
around in true WI tradition and we are now viable again; but we do need new members, as our numbers are dwindling!

On 5th December seven members attended the County Christmas Concert in Cheltenham. The attraction this year was Only Men Aloud who received a rapturous applause – not surprising it was a sell out!

On 11th December we organised a Christmas Social Coffee Morning at Box Village Hall to replace our usual Christmas Meal. Everyone brought a won- derfully varied selection of goodies and carols were sung, accompanied by Sheila Adams at the piano. Our WI Advisor, Sandie Baker, was our guest – I think she was quite impressed by what a lively group we were despite our recent problems. We also showed her the delightful baby jumpers and bean- ie hats that members had knitted – in excess of 60 garments to date!

At the time of writing, we are looking forward to our New Year Lunch at the Edgemoor Inn on 15th January. Our Christmas meal had to be postponed last year due to the snow and we decided that we preferred having a New Year Lunch instead!

Our meeting on 12th February is a talk by Sue Simmonds on Celebrities at the Market House. Sue and her husband have done a tremendous amount of work in fund raising for the Market House and I am sure she will have lots of interesting anecdotes to give us!

Meetings at Box Village Hall are held on the 2nd Tuesday of each month, 10am business, coffee at 10.30am followed by a speaker. Visitors are warmly welcomed at 10.30am - £3 including coffee.
