Box W.I. - September 2018
We had an excellent meeting in July when Jon Mason of Highfield Nurseries came to speak to us on perennials, giving advice on when to buy and plant them. He filled three large tables with a lovely selection of plants. The most interesting fact I learnt was that water from the Duck Pond at Highfield was used (after filtration!) to water all the plants in the Nursery – under normal English summer conditions!
Following on from our talk by Jan Ryder in April on the work of Longfield, 12 of our members visited there at the end of July. They walked around their beautiful gardens as well as seeing the various activities available in the Main House, finishing up with a cream tea!
A proposal to visit the Thistledown café for lunch in August was postponed until September due to the excessive hot weather and the inevitable increase in visitor numbers due to being busy with their camp site.
Our next meeting is on Tuesday 11th September and the talk will be given by Henry Ravenhill of Woefuldane Organic Cheese and Coffee Shop – we are looking forward to some samples!!
Meetings at Box Village Hall are held on the 2nd Tuesday of each month, 10am business, coffee at 10.30am followed by a speaker. Visitors are warmly welcomed at 10.30am - £3 including coffee.
