Traidcraft - January 2018

Traidcraft Christmas Fair

I know it’s a long time ago, but the Traidcraft Christmas fair in November was a huge success ! We took almost £1, 500 (including orders). Thank you so much to everyone who came along to support us and to all the wonderful volunteers who helped on the day.

Our Traidcraft stall is held on the 4th Sunday of each month in the porch room after the 10am service. All welcome.

Swaziland Swaziland Fair Trade (SWIFT) has a large network of artisan craft workers.

Ngwenya Glass All their handblown glass products are made from discarded glass bottles that are collected and melted in a central furnace which is heated using waste oil from a well – known fast food chicken chain! The products are of exceptional quality and design.

Swazi Candles Each candle is designed on paper before being intricately formed from a range of colourful waxes. The factory owns a huge vegetable plot growing bananas, papaya, cabbages , chard and onions. Each harvest is shared between the factory workers so everyone has access to fresh, nutritious food.

Tintsaba This business works in exquisite silver and sisal jewellery. It employs over 700 women most of whom work from home enabling them to look after their children and land as well as earning an income.

Baobab Batik Traditional hand batik techniques are used to produce stunning ‘stained glass’ effects on home and fashion accessories. This business employs about 35 people ( mainly women) and it’s aim is to ‘empower women and to develop the batik art form’.
