Minchinhampton Community Library - January 2017
New Year Celebration for the Minchinhampton Community Library
In January 2013 Minchinhampton Community Library was opened and due to so many loyal volunteers undertaking a variety of tasks, the library has gone from strength to strength each year.
January 2017 also brings another celebration in that Gloucestershire County Council (GCC) has approved a further library support grant for another four years. Many thanks to all those who support Minchinhampton Library, from the youngest babe in arms to some of the oldest members in our community. Your loyal support makes having the community library worthwhile and is a major contributor to our community and town.
Over the past four years the Library Trust has been able to improve not only the volume of books for users, by purchase and many generous donations, but also maintain and enhance the library building and grounds. The new GCC grant will, along with other donations enable the Trust to continue this approach.
Currently around thirty three people volunteer to manage and serve the library in a variety of ways using their different skills, many have been with the library since 2013 and it will be no surprise to you, they are all now, four years older!
Just as the GCC will review and assess funding for future years, so the Minchinhampton Community Library Trust is looking for younger volunteers who will be able take over the baton of serving in the library from those who are that much older. The aim is to be able to hand on from one generation to the next a thriving, dynamic Community Library that plans to meet the community’s future needs.
