COTSWOLD PLAYERS WITH `GLITTER & TWISTED present
‘SHE LOVES ME’
18 and 19, 24 to 26 JANUARY at 7.30PM SUNDAYS 20 and 27 at 5.00PM
We are excited to be co-producing this show with Glitter & Twisted Theatre Company, who have brought some fun Gilbert & Sullivan shows to the Play-house over the past few years.
With wonderful songs by Bock & Harnick, creators of “Fiddler on the Roof”, and a brilliant book by Joe Masteroff who wrote “Cabaret”, our January show is the charming musical “She Loves Me”. Amalia and George hate each oth-er, which is awkward as they work in the same parfumerie. What they don’t know is that they have been secretly writing letters to each other and are falling in love by post. As Christmas approaches matters come to a head.
Based on a 1937 Hungarian play, the plot has surfaced on film many times: “The Shop Around the Corner” with James Stewart; “In the Good Old Sum-mertime” with Judy Garland; and “You’ve Got Mail” with Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks. The musical premiered on Broadway in 1963 and has been revived several times, including hit productions in London and New York in 2016. It is rarely produced by amateur groups in the UK, yet is considered to be one of the best ever written. Charming and romantic, it is hilariously funny and is a real “feel good” show for all the family.
