News from The Ringing Chamber - March 2018
During 2017 we practised on a total of 43 Fridays; There was ringing on every Sunday morning except 2 and, additionally, there were 8 quarter peal attempts of which 7 were successful.
Moving now into 2018, we find ourselves in a position where we would like to recruit some new ringers. Our 2 most recent recruits—Charlie and George (aged 14 and 15) are now ringing confidently and are beginning to tackle methods; meanwhile one ringer has gone off long-term travelling inaround Europe while 2 others are frequently abroad for work, leaving us short on occasions.
We are a friendly bunch of people aged 14-78, male and female, from all walks of life. We practise on Friday evenings from 7.30pm--9pm, though beginners will initially have individual tuition at 7pm, or possibly at other times by arrangement. No particular skill/strength is required but you must be able to climb the 44 steps up to the ringing chamber and be aged about 12+.
As well as practising on Fridays and ringing on Sunday mornings, we enjoy outings to other towers in the Stroud area and further afield, take part in local training days and, most recently, rang (by invitation) for the Colesbourne Snowdrop Festival (between Cirencester and Cheltenham).
If you are interested in coming to have a look at what we do, just come along on a Friday evening (follow the path anticlockwise round the church to reach the tower steps) or contact Angie on 01453 884203.
