News from the Bell Tower - September 2015

On June 20th the Stroud Branch of the Gloucester and Bristol Association of Church Bellringers held a striking competition at Haresfield Church. The competition is designed to test the accuracy of ringing the bells which in turn helps the ringers to produce a much more joyful sound when ringing at Sunday Service or practice night.

This year a team was entered to represent Minchinhampton Church, and this consisted of 4 local ringers plus 2 guests from another church (see photo).

The ringers performed 120 call changes which were marked by 2 eminent judges from towers in Bristol. The standard across all teams, according to judges, was much higher this year than previously and we are extremely proud and pleased to say that we came a very creditable 3rd out of 9 teams. Thanks to all who took part, who then went on to enjoy a wonderful barbecue at Horsley Church afterwards.

The aim now is to develop our ringing so that we can enter an all local team of 6 ringers next year. To help towards this goal it would be great to hear from anyone who is interested in becoming a ringer, maybe first coming to the tower on a practice night (Fridays 7.30 to 9pm) to see how it is done and to have a go. Who knows, if you develop the interest you could be ringing in the Striking Competition with us next year! Angie Ayling, Tower Captain
