Box W.I. - June 2018

At our April meeting, Jan Ryder spoke on the work of Longfield, who offer support to those who are facing up to a terminal illness and their families. There is no residential care at Longfield but their specialist nurses go into homes to assist when required. Day courses are available at Longfield which offer a wide variety of activities and they also have beautiful grounds where one can relax in peace and quiet. All these services are free and Longfield exists on donations and charity events that they organise them-selves, such as sponsored walks.

Also, at our April meeting we were made aware that we must comply with the General Data Protection Regulations 2018. So, we hurriedly put together a consent form for members to sign, giving their permission for certain details to be retained by the secretary for her continued correspondence to the membership.

Our next meeting on 12th June is a talk by Mike Spence entitled “My life on 4 wheels”. Mike was awarded an MBE in 2017 for his “services to sport, Education and the Community”. I am sure his talk will be most inspiring.

Meetings at Box Village Hall are held on the 2nd Tuesday of each month, 10am business, coffee at 10.30am followed by a speaker. Visitors are warmly welcomed at 10.30am - £3 including coffee.
