Minchinhampton W.I. - November 2017

Our WI met as usual at the Library on 4 October where, after the official business was completed, we sat back to enjoy a slide show and talk by Diana Wall. Her theme was Victorian Childhood and was based mainly on the children of families in this area.

There was school up to the age of 12 yrs when the children left to find local employment. However, there was time to play with, perhaps, a top and whip, marbles or ball sports. The children were blessed with the ability to play and roam the Common where imagination could take control. Although childhood was short and the older children often had the responsibility of younger siblings we understood that they learnt to interact with one another at an early age and have fun.

Come and join us on the first Wednesday of the month when we meet in the Library at 2pm. We are a social group and enjoy meeting new people: most months we have an experienced speaker and then tea and talk. We hope to see some new faces soon.
