Minchinhampton W.I. - June 2017
May is the month all WIs discuss the chosen two Resolutions in detail. This year the chosen ones were on ways of combating loneliness and the amount of non-biodegradable particles from materials and clothing which pollute the seas and oceans. We had an excellent presentation by one of our members who serves on the Public Affairs Committee. Our members passed these unanimously and our delegate to the Annual Meeting in Liverpool will vote on our behalf.
The President then introduced Mrs Janice Cole, a member of County Federation, who gave an excellent talk on the work of the Associated Country Women of the World (ACWW) to which the WI is associated. The ACWW helps the girls and women in the poorer countries of the world, helping them to combat many problems. For example young girls having to walk many miles before school to collect water which is usually polluted. Money has been raised to construct wells to give clean water and also to build latrines. Currently ACWW is working with the UN on plans to eradicate Female Genital Mutilation. It is good to know that our monetary contributions are put to good use.
