Traidcraft - June 2017

We hold a Traidcraft stall on the 4th Sunday of each month in the porch room after the 10am service. We also sell cards EVERY week ....a great idea if you are suddenly in need of a birthday or occasional card or just a blank notecard. Traidcraft ‘s motto is - ‘Traid not Aid’ ...and by coming along and buying from the stall, you are helping people in poorer countries to work their way out of poverty.

Manos Amigas (Helping Hands) was set up in Peru and is a fair trade organization dedication to the export of handicrafts and to alternative tourism.
Manos Amigas offers training workshops for their artisans, and participates in international trade fairs to gain new markets for the artisans.

Juan Carlos has a ceramics workshop in Chorrillos, a poor neighbourhood on the outskirts of Lima. Many of the people moved there during the civil conflicts in the 80s and 90s. Electricity and drinking water have only arrived recently in the area.

Manos Amigas works with the people to provide prompt payments for delivery of the goods and they provide training in product development, quality, costings and health and safety.

Peru has recently been badly affected by the El Nino climate phenomenon which has brought rain, floods and mudslides, destroying houses, bridges and roads. Electricity and water supplies have also been affected.

Manos Amigas has been providing extra support at this time to try to keep the artisans working. Juan Carlos says...’The best support is from the orders we receive and make with our own hands, allowing ourselves to earn a fair income.’
All this could not happen without your support !!

If you want to know more about the stories of the people who are helped through Traidcraft, please go to their website or ask one of the Traidcraft team.
Look out for details of our summer tea party and please do continue to support us.

Thank you.
