Box W I - May 2017

BettyBirthdayWe spent our March Meeting sampling tasty sausages, attractively served on wooden skewers and a slice of delicious sausage roll, all prepared by Taylor’s Butchers of Minchinhampton. We did listen to the talk by Joe of Taylor’s as well! We were told about the family history of the butchers and other interesting facts about the manufacture of their sausages. Indeed, there has been a butcher on that same site for 300 years and Taylors have been there for nearly 125 years! A celebration was also held to mark Betty Foxton’s 90th Birthday, with a magnificent cake made by Shani Wills.

Some of the members have had a very busy but enjoyable time in March. Two members went to the Gold Cup in Cheltenham and had a fun filled day surrounded by enthusiastic Irish punters! The WI Hospitality Marquee was quite special and the WI members were provided with their own bookie. (Don’t ask!)

The Annual Council Meeting in Cheltenham Town Hall attended by 10 of our members was also an interesting and enjoyable event. The morning speaker was Countess Bathurst who spoke of her two aunts who were keen WI members and of her involvement with the Police, Fire and Prison Services. The afternoon speaker was Lucy Worsley who is chief curator of the Royal Palaces and is well known for her TV appearances.

I am very proud to tell you that our 2 teams who entered the County Quiz Competition came 2nd and 3rd and so they are through to the next round!

Our resolutions meeting is on 9th May after which we are proposing to have a working party, making flags for the Great Get Together Celebration in memory of Jo Cox, in Box on 18th June.

Meetings at Box Village Hall are held on the 2nd Tuesday of each month, 10am business, coffee at 10.30am followed by a speaker. Visitors are warmly welcomed at 10.30am - £3 including coffee.
