Messy Church Lent - February 2018

MessyChurch0218

On Sunday afternoon, February 18th, around 20 families gathered at church to explore Lent the Messy Church way. There were plenty of crafts and activities to take part in. There was “magic” kinetic sand to play with and sand paintings to do to remind us of the time Jesus spent in the desert. There were pretzels to make to represent arms folded in prayer which reminded us to pray more in Lent. We decorated biscuits just for fun! This all happened in the Porch Room whilst in church we wrote prayers to go on our prayer tree, helped make a banner to show the journey through the 40 days of Lent, did lots of colouring and played board games. After the crafts, we played Father Abraham had many sons all together. Then we settled down for our worship. We sang some songs, said some prayers and we put together our Lent-in-a-Bag using sand to remind us that God is always there for us, a stone to remind us to resist temptation, a pipe cleaner figure to remind us to follow Jesus’ teaching and a candle so we can be His lights in the world - (there are some of these bags left over so you can take your own from the Porch Room). We ended the afternoon with a picnic tea in the Porch Room and everyone seemed to have had a good time. My thanks to all who helped to make it a successful afternoon.
